Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips has signed a fresh five-year contract at Elland Road.
Aston Villa were connected with Phillips through the summer transfer window although the 23-year-old has dedicated his long term potential with a bargain that ties him for his boyhood club to Leeds.
“Within the duration of the summer transfer windowPhillips has been subject to high profile attention from a number of Premier League sides, even with the club rebuffing several offers in excess of 20m,” the team said in a statement.
“The team claimed throughout that Phillips would not be marketed, with the midfielder being key to plans for the future, with the immediate goal of securing top flight soccer.
“As a club, we’re thrilled that Kalvin shares the same vision and potential for Leeds United, which has been demonstrated by committing his long-term future to the Whites.”
Since breaking into the first team through the 2014-15 year old phillips has produced 148 appearances for United.
After making 46 appearances in all competitions, the defensive midfielder has been appointed in the Sky Bet Championship team of this season for its 2018-19 campaign.
Phillips has featured in each game up to now this season for Leeds, assisting Marcelo Bielsa’s side to third in the Championship table behind Charlton and Swansea City.
