(CNN) — Stipe Miocic conquered Daniel Cormier in the UFC 241 major event Saturday night to again become the heavyweight champion.
For several rounds it seemed like Miocic could lose his second successive struggle against Cormier, the defending heavyweight champ. Cormier beat on him at UFC 226 in July 2018, knocking him out.
But this moment Miocic staged a comeback in the fourth round, bringing several body shots and also straight back blows to Cormier’s mind which ended in a knockout to reclaim the title.
“He’s an remarkable fighter,” Miocic mentioned of his opponent at a post-fight news conference. “He gets people feel uneasy in the slightest. He did for the first two rounds but then I started to receive my bearings. I saw him slowing down and I thought,’Ok , this is where I take action today.'”
Before dropping to Cormier last year, Miocic, 35, had been the first UFC heavyweight champion to defend the name three times.
Cormier, 40, the very first and single UFC fighter to defend titles in two weight classes, has triumphed that Saturday’s struggle may be his final.
“Everyone asks about [retirement], however, that’s what happens if you turn 40,” Cormier told CNN on Thursday. “I really feel great. I wan na na get through this weekend, then I’ll sit with my loved ones, and we are going to figure out what’s going on. It’s a thing that is true . Father time builds up to everybody.”
